Original Interview by ShoutOut LA

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kit Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kit, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?

It’s important to embrace discipline and time management to complete creative e!orts. With a goal in mind, schedule time to employ your creative work to evolve each day. You might sit in front of a blank page, but don’t force results, just write. The edit comes later. Don’t wait for inspiration — you’ll put o! time necessary to get anything done. Listen to music, look at art, watch a movie — get on a creative path.

I was raised a military brat, so I learned, at an early age, take the focus necessary to complete a task, and dedicate a schedule to accomplish it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

For three decades, I was employed as Creative Director for ad agencies in Los Angeles and Orange County,CA. Responsible for estimating commercial budgets for print/broadcast/public relations, I was able to attack a client’s marketing needs with inspired copywriting/art direction/production supervision, employing models, actors, photographers, video production crews, newspapers/magazines that sold a product or service. A shark infested waters behind the scenes — ad agencies gobbled up creatives in nonstop pursuit of client approval. Political backroom deals added to the mixture.

With a dedicated resolve to create the best work possible for the budget, clutching the reins of control was a challenge for each and every ad campaign.

All said and done, working with other creatives (crew and talent) is a shared experience, rewarding each person witha di!erent outcome, The common goal: craft a unique, timeless story that endures the film festival circuit to a gratefulaudience, year in and year out.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

The Los Angeles basin is a banquet of sights, sounds, and tastes. It would be a pleasure to introduce a friend to the treasure of Pasadena’s beautiful vintage homes, museums and restaurants. Santa Monica would follow with a world-class beach, old Hollywood bungalows, walk in cafes and lots of palm trees. The museums of Los Angeles match any in Europe for a sublime artistic experience — The Getty is tops!

Take a cruise through Beverly Hills and soak in the wealth and awesome homes! Visit Hollywood, the studios included, and absorb the history that was necessary to built an entertainment empire.

Complete an evening with a visit to the Griffith Observatory where the stars hang over the breath-taking view of the city below. If you can, visit the Magic Castle, and be amazed by the views, food, and of course, the star- studded magic!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

A humble thanks to wonderful talent and crew from Seattle/Tacoma who believed in my writing, joined our teams, crafted our films and watched amazing results: awards and recognition of one hundred twelve world-wide film festivals for nine films in eight years. Although in short film format, our dedicated talent approached each story as a feature — with costumes, music, sets that painted a canvas in a dynamic and engaging manner.

Thank you!
